Pallasite meteorites are an extremely rare class of stony-iron meteorite. The meteorite on display is the largest of about 60 known to exist. Scientists believe pallasites come from the area in an asteroid where the core and mantle meet. Named after Peter Pallas, the mystery of these meteorites have fascinated us since being discovered in Siberia in the 18th Century. | Space Center Houston
