Betty Wright (born Bessie Regina Norris on December 21, 1953, and passed away on May 10, 2020) was an influential American soul and R&B singer and songwriter. Wright began her musical journey singing gospel with her family group, The Echoes of Joy. By the age of eleven, she started experimenting with R&B music. In 1968, at just 14 years old, she released her debut album, My First Time Around, which included her first national hit, "Girls Can't Do What Guys Can Do." Her most significant success c
