Campylobacteriosis is a gastrointestinal infection caused by Campylobacter bacteria that commonly colonize the intestines of chickens, turkeys, and waterfowl but are generally nonpathogenic in birds. People and other animals commonly develop enteritis after consumption of Campylobacter in undercooked poultry meat or contaminated water, or through ingestion of feces from birds or other animals with campylobacteriosis.
