When will Apple drop macOS support for M1 systems?
Mar 12, 2023 · There's not a lot of publicly known SoC sub-components in M2 that aren't also in M1. If Apple decides, for instance to make having ProRes Encode/Decode engines a requirement for the operating system due to a fundamental feature, then you might see M1 Macs dropped, while M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and newer keep support.
How many watts does the M1 MacBook really need?
May 3, 2011 · The 30W charger from the MacBook Air definitely doesn't have enough power to supply both USB-C and USB-A ports on my Caldigit SOHO dock. My M1 MacBook Air goes to sleep when using clamshell mode if I plug in an ethernet adapter and then a thumb drive. I guess if the charge falls off, the power circuit thinks the MBA isn't plugged in to the charger.

Jan 11, 2024 · This is why I caution anyone buying the m1 MacBook Air if they’re going to keep it more then 3 years. I am wondering if M1 pro/max/ultra will be supported for longer. I know with iPads the X series of chips always received longer support but in the pas with the mac apple doesn’t care about hardware as much as they care about age.

May 3, 2011 · I can confirm that my Macbook Pro M1 outputs 4K/60Hz with the Apple AV adapter. The details in 'System Information' look identical to direct output with a USB-C to Displayport cable. However, some devices (eg. my Pixelbook Go) only output 4K/60Hz via Displayport, so this cable remains my preference (using a Caldigit Soho).

Apr 28, 2003 · Our Macbook Air M1 with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD arrived just yesterday evening. I updated it to Big Sur 11.1 and then proceeded to restore from a TimeMachine backup of our mac Mini M1 running Big Sur 11.1. It was a fresh TimeMachine on an USB-C SSD.

Apr 9, 2022 · Using any port (tried them all) on my 16” MBP M1 Max— charging with 2.48A @ 5.06V, so 12.55W Using my MBP power brick, it charges with 1.55A @ 8.80V, so 13.64W Technically, it isn’t fast charging from the USB-C ports on my MBP, but difference is only 8.7% better with USB PD fast charging from the power brick 🤷♂️

Nov 30, 2014 · I would imagine that as long as Walmart is still selling the M1 MacBook Air, they won't drop support. I think Apple is probably going to prioritize Apple Intelligence going forward and I think the M1 Macs will stay supported as long their performance is acceptable.
