Second is to clean the valves of carbon, oil and deposits. I prefer the valve face to be ground to remove all pitting to insure a good valve to seat seal.

Jul 28, 2013 · Also the drill method you use is about the worse way to lap a valve, Here again IMHO, due to valve guide clearance, the valve can #### and you can wear one side of the seat more than the other, leaving the seat oval, and not round. Plus you no longer a flat seating surface on the valve, but a concave face on the valve.

Dec 12, 2004 · I did a 3-angle on the valve, and with the cut stock seat, my contact patch was on the transition from 30 to 44 degrees. It might not be the same for people who just buy the valves and throw 'em in. That's not true about the surdi. I've Never had to lap in one valve out of the thousands i've cut.

Feb 14, 2008 · The intakes will have the larger valve head than the exhaust. Since they got all mixed up, I would take them to a local machine shop and have the valve faces ground. This will put a new face on the valve and then lap the valves in the seat you want them. Having the valves ground should not be much, a couple dollars per valve.

Oct 15, 2018 · This is very common on old valves, not sure what causes it exactly but I've seen it allot over the years. The valve seat face is what matters for sealing. Pitting/corrosion on the valve seat and/or valve seat face would be a concern though. My guess would be condensation cycles from sitting static for a long time.

Id definately dissasemble, clean, de-carbon, lap, and make sure to replace the valve seals-how often do you want to take a head off t do it? great opportunity! If the valves are bent youll be able to tell when youre spinning them to lap them.

Dec 13, 2005 · I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine in my girlfriend's Sunfire. The car has 150k on it, and was starting to burn alot of oil. I removed the valves from the head, and the seat area of every exhaust valve was SEVERELY pitted- some worse than others. The seats in the head aren't really damaged at all, just pitting on the valves themselves.

I've read somewhere that if you install cams on a 2G that you'd have to modify the CAS (which for some reason, 1G owners don't have that much problem), although I'm also quite aware that its a pain so some people just go the DSMlink route.

Apr 26, 2011 · If the shop used the os valve when they patterned in the seat for the valve job then you will need the os valves to fix it. lap a valve or two on both the int and exh side, the seat should be centered on the valve, if it is running off the outer edge of the valve the seats are too big and will need the OS valves installed.
