Whoever specced out your laptop decide to pay the little extra for 6GB but didn't want to jump to the cost of 8GB. You do lose dual channel RAM with that setup as configured, so it is slower which is why it's less common.

If your mother board supports dual channel, you can effectively increase bus capacity by having more than one stick of RAM.

May 23, 2017 · On some motherboards a BIOS update might be needed to ensure full compatibility. Basically, your motherboard chipset needs to be able to support addressing of 6Gb RAM, and support the Memory remapping feature. Otherwise it won't fully utilize 6Gb RAM under 64-bit Windows. You don't store your files here, but the computer needs it to do its stuff, like calculating things and so on (which it's always doing, even if you're just watching youtube). Now the 320GB refers to the storage capacity of the hard drive.
