Dec 14, 2022 · Frame generation needs a high and stable input framerate to give good results both in terms of image quality, fluidity, and latency. As frame time goes up, the ability to reconcile the differences becomes harder to solve and the errata persist on screen for longer.

May 11, 2024 · Personally, I find frame generation makes most sense when you're trying to run really high settings that wouldn't really be possible without frame generation. I use AMD Fluid Motion Frames to make playing Witcher 3 on my Ryzen 9 7940HS iGPU easier. It feels laggy but at least it looks mostly fine.

In this case the latency improvement would be even better but also the latency cost of frame gen would be negligible in this case (but with twice the framerate). So Frame Gen + Reflex is the obvious choice in almost all games supporting it. For me it really is a no-brainer.

Apr 19, 2023 · Nearly all VRR displays have 60 Hz in VRR range, but only G-sync module equipped displays have 30Hz in VRR range, so if you have V-sync on and dip to 30 fps for a few seconds on a display that has its lower range at 50 Hz, then you sudden get ~30ms of extra latency on top of the ~15ms already introduced (at that framerate) by Frame Generation.

"Fake frame" is not a newly rendered frame, it's interpolated frame which needed previous frame data - so obviously you need some buffer to store that data - hence a bit higher VRAM usage. You watch some videos on YT explaining how this works in detail if you're interest - explaining what data it needs and how all this fits into rendering pipeline.

Enable V-Sync through the NVIDIA Control Panel. Adjust your maximum refresh rate to be 1-2 frames less than your monitor's maximum rate, also via the NVIDIA Control Panel.

For example, game (Cyberpunk 2077) runs mostly at 60-70 fps, but sometimes it drops to 50 fps. With frame generation ON, it around 100+ fps and perfectly smooths out fps drop. But the ability to use VSync disappears, and appear very noticeable screen tearing… If enable VSync from the Nvidia control panel - frame generation become unusable.
