Over his seven decade career, he became a prominent figures in the industry. [2] Nageswara Rao received seven state Nandi Awards, five Filmfare Awards South and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award.

Akkineni Nageswara Rao was born on 20 September 1923 in Venkataraghavapuram, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India. He was an actor and producer, known for Meghasandesam (1983), Laila Majnu (1949) and Devadasu (1953).

Akkineni Nageswara Rao was married to Annapurna Akkineni. Their son Akkineni Nagarjuna is also an actor. His recent release was 'Sri Rama Rajyam' in 2011 where he portrayed Valmiki. ANR ‘s final project was Manam that saw three generations of the Akkineni family including himself, his son Nagarjuna and grandson Naga Chaitanya in it.
