Oh I don't care personally, but in this instance I care because as someone who wants to participate in discussions on r/television, any reality show suggestions or discussions are immediately shot down and thrown away. Whole threads about reality tv are downvoted... hell, this thread alone can't even break 5 upvotes, it's been stuck at 0 ever ...

However, that reality TV series must be first distributed by either a broadcast or cable network or a streaming service that either is ad-filled (like Tubi or Pluto TV) or requires subscription (like Netflix). A reality TV series cannot be a self-produced series first posted on YouTube! The series cannot be user-generated or amateur(ish) either!

Reality Television is pretty difficult to produce, no matter how shallow it can seem at times. While shows like Survivor and The Bachelor still manage to obtain millions of viewers each season, these smash successes are few and far between. Reality television isn't really that appealing to people, it's just extremely, comically, insanely cheap to make compared to dramatic or story-driven shows. The people involved have no skill or ability beyond being recognizable to people in grocery store checkout lines, and thus are completely replaceable and inexpensive.

From ‘reality’ shows like Cops to full on dramas, they only get made with the co-operation, approval, and support of law enforcement. You’re never going to get a real, honest final product when your show is either subsidized by or entirely dependent on the group you’re portraying.

But there is something redeeming about this shit, and it's that it's culture. Honestly, who the fuck cares who the president of France is banging?

Apr 27, 2022 · I’m a huge Survivor head, and was never big into reality before that. Some people will argue differently but IMO start from the beginning, it’s a fascinating time capsule and fun to watch the gameplay and production develop. It set the template for a lot of reality TV. Drag Race, Project Runway I’ve also enjoyed.

Not the actual show that broadcasts, but watching the feeds and seeing the 24/7 live feeds is probably the most accurate and transparent ability to watch a reality show. The edited show for it though is heavily manipulated and the diary rooms are entirely fed lines and just stupid jokes.

Feb 6, 2022 · Cops was the start of the whole "reality" TV. Since then, it has become "gimmicky". Concepts are more enjoyable than reality in most cases. The concept of setting up scenarios never compensates for the human factor. Reality TV is anything but; nobody in the real world gets paid to go through their troubles. The TV personalities do.
