In the last 13 months, the American Red Cross has responded to three hurricanes making landfall in the Big Bend region, and with the arrival of Hurricane Helene, some who had lost or seen their homes badly damaged were forced to leave temporary housing this week for emergency shelter.

As Mayor John Dailey warned residents that, if the forecast track holds, Tallahassee will see hurricane damage “like nothing we have ever experienced,” many scrambled to stockpile water, bread and other supplies to last while Helene disrupts life in the Capital City.
