The highly anticipated new Premier League season kicked off at Anfield on Friday, with some supporters still wiping away tears from their eyes on a bright, sunny day. Those same supporters likely wiped very different tears away once the final whistle sounded following a six-goal affair that saw the home club walk away with a 4-2 victory.

Anfield is a special place, and the emotions were overflowing on Friday as Liverpool played its first Premier League match since the car accident that claimed the lives of Reds forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

Liverpool dedicated the cover of its match-day program to Jota, who played 123 times for the club, and Silva. All players across the league will wear black arm bands this weekend and will take part in a moment of silence. New signing Hugo Ekitike scored Friday's opening goal and celebrated by paying tribute to Jota.
