There have been at least 16 deaths and more than 10,000 structures damaged or destroyed in L.A. area fires. After a day of progress in containing the Eaton and Palisades fires, firefighters are bracing for several days of winds that could hamper efforts to contain the firestorm.

The unprecedented fires in Los Angeles, California, have reportedly led to the loss of 16 lives so far have spread to 1,000 more acres, with unfavourable weather conditions on cards.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday an investigation into water shortages that occurred as large blazes scorched Los Angeles County this week, making the declaration before the disaster’s death toll reached 11.
