She said a man carrying a gun, later identified as Schield, was inside her home. The officers heard the gunshot as they approached and surrounded the home, calling on the man to surrender.

Alex Hensley, a longtime friend of Schield, also told ABC10 what Schield was planning on doing. "Fred was in the process of taking over the home,” said Hensley.
