Whether it's for a big wedding or a small get-together, invites often say "RSVP." But what does it stand for and where does the term come from?

After hearing from a number of brides that their friends and family failed to RVSP to their wedding invitations ... who did RSVP didn't show up. It made me so angry thinking about all the money ...
