YouTube will begin guessing users’ ages using artificial intelligence on Wednesday, as part of an effort to prevent kids from accessing inappropriate content online.

If the technology incorrectly estimates a user to be under 18, they can verify with a credit card or a government ID. YouTube said it will only allow users who have been verified over 18 to view age-restricted content that may be inappropriate for younger users.

Adult YouTube users flagged as under 18 can appeal by proving their age via ID, payment card, or facial image. This appeal process is sparking privacy and security concerns.
