After more than 40 years of service, the United States Air Force is retiring its final Boeing KC-10 Extender aerial refueller, which is being replaced by the newer Boeing KC-46 Pegasus.

The U.S. Air Force officially said farewell today to the KC-10 Extender, sending its final example to the boneyard, while recognizing the service that the stalwart tanker and cargo aircraft provided since it first entered service in 1981.

In a farewell ceremony to the aircraft, Travis AFB and Air Mobility Command marked the end of the aircraft's over 40 years of service.
