Today, Donnarumma is out of the PSG project with one year left in his contract which runs until the summer of 2026. So what happened in the last few weeks? Why are the European champions willing to let him go?
No sooner had The Athletic reported that Donnarumma was set on leaving PSG — now, or at the end of his deal — than head coach Luis Enrique excluded the goalkeeper from tonight’s UEFA Super Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur in Italy. It’s a dramatic escalation and from here, there’s almost certainly no way back.
Therefore, the table has been laid. Donnarumma will be leaving PSG and there are no shortage of suitors for the 26-year-old shot-stopper. Manchester City, Bayern and Galatasaray have emerged amongst the clubs linked to the Italian but there are other possibilities on the horizon for the former Milan man.
Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain has signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille on a five-year contract amid increasing uncertainty over Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future at the club.
