LONDON — More comfortable on grass courts than ever, Iga Swiatek played as well as she ever has on the slick surface — well, better than ever, actually — to reach her first Wimbledon final by defeating Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 at Centre Court on Thursday.

It’s Iga Świątek, the five-time Grand Slam champion who spent 125 weeks as the world No. 1 between early 2022 and late 2024. She’s the No. 8 seed at Wimbledon, but she’s actually the world No. 4. Only four players are left in the draw now, and she is one of them — for the first time.

Iga Swiatek has reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over 19th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova that went from a stroll to a bit of a struggle in the late stages.

Now, Swiatek has a chance to become the eighth woman in tennis history with a Grand Slam title on all surfaces. If she achieves the feat, she'll join Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Hana Mandlikova, Steffi Graf, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Ashleigh Barty.
