On individual and collective notes, Jason Spezza has ample reason to be pleased with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s season to date. Spezza, assistant general manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins, directly oversees the club’s American Hockey League affiliate.

The AHL has announced that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Vasily Ponomarev has been suspended one game after he received a match penalty in a game against the Hershey Bears. The incident occurred in the third period of a Feb. 15 game against the Hershey Bears in which Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lost 403.

With the team scheduled to resume practice Tuesday at the UPMC Lemieux Complex, the Pittsburgh Penguins recalled Blomqvist and forward Emil Bemstrom, who is the second-leading scorer in the AHL with games in hand on the leader.

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Emil Bemstrom and rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. In a corresponding transaction, goaltender Tristan Jarry was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

With the 4 Nations Face-off about to come to a close on Thursday when Team USA and Team Canada square off for a rematch in the championship game, the Pittsburgh Penguins decided to get ahead of their return-to-play following the break.
