Two environmental protesters who sprayed paint on Britain's Stonehenge in June have been charged with offences related to the alleged damage caused to the prehistoric megalithic monument, prosecutors said on Thursday.

Two people have been charged over an incident in which orange paint was thrown at the Stonehenge stones. Several stones were left covered in the orange powder paint after the incident on June 19, just before the Summer Solstice.

Video footage had shown members of the public trying to stop the protestors as they sprayed the powder across the stones in the incident described as "extremely upsetting."
