The New York Islanders have hired Mathieu Darche as their next general manager. TSN's Pierre LeBrun first reported the hire. Darche will succeed Lou Lamoriello, who had run New York's front office from 2018-19. The Islanders let Lamoriello go after they missed the playoffs this season.
Despite being let go by the Maple Leafs earlier this week, it doesn't look like Brendan Shanahan will be joining the Islanders.
Mathieu Darche was hired as general manager and executive vice president of the New York Islanders on Friday. The 48-year-old replaces Lou Lamoriello. The Islanders announced April 22 that Lamoriello would not have his contract renewed as president and general manager.
The New York Islanders jumped 10 spots in the 2025 Draft Lottery, cashing in on their 3.5 percent odds to land the No. 1 overall pick after finishing 23rd out of 32 teams during the 2024-25 season. It was a massive windfall for the Islanders, but the timing couldn’t have been funkier.
