There’s a new hippo in town — and she’s ready to pop into the spotlight. The Metro Richmond Zoo announced the name of its newborn baby pygmy hippo on the “Today Show” on Jan. 6 after a heated worldwide online poll.

On Dec. 9, just two weeks before Christmas, a baby pygmy hippo was born at the zoo in Richmond, Virginia. Now, you can vote to help decide her name.

The mother Iris gave birth to the female calf on Dec. 9 following a seven-month gestation, zoo officials said. The newborn, who has yet to be named, is the third calf for Iris and the father, Corwin. She was also the second calf to be born in December, according to the zoo.
