Parent company Liberated Brands blamed fast fashion and e-commerce moving too quickly to sustain its outdated brick-and-mortar stores in bankruptcy filings.

According to The Los Angeles Times, California-based parent company Liberated Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will shut down 124 stores across the country. As Quiksilver and Billabong are both Australian brands, they will continue to operate stores outside the United States.

Liberated Brands, the operator for Billabong, Quiksilver, and Volcom, filed for bankruptcy effectively closing the popular retailers in the U.S.

More than 100 stores under the Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom brands are set to shut their doors across the U.S. The skater, snowboarder and surfer-oriented apparel stores are closing because California-based operator Liberated Brands has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, NBC News reported.

A popular fashion company known for surf brands has filed for bankruptcy. Yahoo Finance reports Liberated Brands, which operated Billabong, Roxy, Quiksilver, and Volcom, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware. Liberated said it would close 120 stores in the U.S. and Canada, firing more than 1,400 people from their jobs.

More than 100 locations across the United States are shutting down in the coming weeks after their operator, Liberated Brands, filed for bankruptcy, blaming fast-fashion rivals and other economic factors for its financial struggles.
