Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday laid the foundation stone for Tata Motors' new facility at Panapakkam SIPCOT, Ranipet, that would produce sports cars and SUVs.

The auto major's plant, which entails an investment of Rs 9,000 crore would produce next generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British arm of the car maker, the company said.

The new Tamil Nadu plant, with an annual production capacity of 2,50,000 units, will produce Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover cars for Indian and international markets.

Tata Motors is gearing up to set up a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, pouring in ₹9,000 crore into the venture. Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone for the project today. The ceremony took place at Panapakkam, around 115km away from Chennai. This move is expected to create 5,000 new jobs in the area.
