Upon signing it last winter, Hader acknowledged the Astros committed to him and, in turn, he would be available in whatever capacity they desired. Before becoming an Astro, Hader had not gone more than one inning in a regular-season game since Aug. 14, 2020, part of an effort to protect his health before reaching free agency.
