Chelsea defeated Benfica in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 advancing to face Palmeiras in the quarterfinals surviving extra time against 10-men Benfica.

Palmeiras have just beaten fellow Brazilians Botafogo in extra time. Chelsea start striker Liam Delap with alternative option Nicolas Jackson suspended for the round of 16 match against Benfica. Benoit Badiashile is a surprise selection in defence at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte.

Chelsea reached the Club World Cup quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Benfica which was halted in the 86th minute due to adverse weather. The Blues led through Reece James ’s free-kick when the match was paused due to lightning and a thunderstorm.
