A chemical tank in California that appeared at risk of exploding has stabilized, local fire officials said on May 25, resolving what authorities said could have been a "worst-case catastrophic event."

Crews sprayed water on the tank until the interior temperature stabilized to 92F, down from 100F over the weekend, the fire department said on Tuesday.
