Bundle up if you need to go outside on Tuesday morning. Sub-zero wind chills are possible in the area. A cold weather advisory is in effect for the region until 10 a.m. Jan. 20. "Very cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero expected," according to the statement issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
As extreme cold weather grips large sections of the United States, people still need to work and live their lives. CNN wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen has guidance.
Cardiologist Dr. Tamanna Singh explains that when you go out into very chilly weather, your body is exposed to a stressor, especially if the climate is very different from what you’re used to. Doing something physically challenging in the cold adds to that stress.
The CDC said some medications can also interfere with your body’s ability to regulate temperature in extreme heat, making it harder to cool down and increase sun sensitivity to the skin. It can also make a person more vulnerable to heat by affecting the body’s hydration.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for portions of northern and West Michigan through Tuesday evening as a Clipper system brings accumulating snow, gusty winds and dangerous wind chills across the state.
