Veterans of the appalling conflict in the Far East in World War Two gathered for a poignant ceremony of remembrance marking the day fighting came to an end 80 years ago

The royals came together to honor the British and Commonwealth troops who fought in WWII, but Prince William and Kate were notably absent.

Prince William and Kate Middleton issued an emotional message while marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, aka Victory Over Japan Day. On Friday, Aug. 15, the Prince and Princess of Wales took to X with a post remembering the official end of World War II in Japan.

One of the RAF Red Arrows experienced a bird strike on the way to a flypast on Friday. The aerobatic display team were headed to the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, when the strike happened.
