The Virginia Lottery said a man from Ashburn and his aunt, who lives in Emporia, Va., will split $1 million after they won Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle.

A Virginia man earned some major brownie points with his aunt after gifting her a New Year’s Millionaire Raffle ticket that lottery officials said won a $1 million top prize.

According to lottery officials that prompted Smith to contact his aunt, Geraldine Smith, to make sure she checked her ticket. Ticket #074973 was a $1 million winner. This week, the lottery announced the two agreed to split the prize money.

If you live or travel in Augusta County and purchased a New Year’s Millionaire Raffle ticket, you might want to check your numbers today.

According to Virginia Lottery, the $1 million prize was part of the New Year's Millionaire Raffle. Five tickets were sold at grocery stores, convenience stores and gas stations across the commonwealth. Those businesses include: Ticket #068764 (bought at McNair Farms Sunoco, 13470 Coppermine Road, Herndon)
