Elon Musk faces controversy as his tunneling venture, The Boring Company, pushes forward with plans for a 10-mile underground loop in Nashville, despite his repeated promises to focus on Tesla (TSLA) and eliminate political distractions.

The Boring Company, Elon Musk’s tunnel-digging company, and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee have announced a plan to build a 10-mile “loop” that will connect Nashville’s downtown and its convention center to the area’s airport.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee says the Nashville tunnels will come at “zero cost” to taxpayers, and will instead be “entirely privately funded” by The Boring Company and its partners. Once completed, the “Tesla in tunnels” system will ferry people from the airport to downtown in around eight minutes.
