Facing extreme winter weather, Texas energy operators ERCOT, Oncor are confident, prepared
Texas power grid operator ERCOT is facing its first test of the winter season as the state headed into a deep cold snap expected to last until Friday. The power grid agency issued a weather advisory that went into effect Monday, indicating power reserves could fall as demand spikes. The weather advisory lasts until Friday.
Will this week’s snow strain the Texas power grid like the 2021 winter storm?
This is different than in February 2021 when the there was a days long winter storm across the state. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the frigid temperatures lasted days in mid-February, with highs above freezing only once between Feb. 10 and Feb. 18.
