As Democrats control both the Legislature and the Blaine House, Maine appears extremely unlikely — for now — to stop Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood services.

The Supreme Court is letting South Carolina block Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. For abortion opponents, it's a victory for the idea that states with more restrictive abortion laws shouldn't have to support groups that provide services policymakers disagree with.

The Supreme Court allowed South Carolina to remove Planned Parenthood clinics from its state Medicaid program, even though Medicaid funds cannot generally be used to fund abortions.
