When Stanford’s best player, sophomore guard Nunu Agara, landed awkwardly on her tailbone in the first five minutes of Thursday’s game at Notre Dame, it felt like if she could return to action maybe the Cardinal could be competitive.

Hannah Hidalgo scored 24 points and No. 3 Notre Dame handed Stanford the worst defeat of its storied women’s basketball program with a 96-47 victory Thursday.

The Irish avenged their decades-old misfortune by handing the Cardinal their worst loss in program history, 96-47. The 49-point margin of defeat beat the Cardinal's previous record of 45, which was dealt by Long Beach State in March 1983.
