A new wildfire was reported today at 1:13 p.m. in Los Angeles County, California. The wildfire has been burning on private land. There is currently no information about the containment efforts for the fire and its cause has not yet been determined.

The Canyon Fire in Southern California has currently spread to roughly 4,850 acres and prompted mass evacuations. The blaze's rapid spread was fueled by extreme heat and dry winds. The Gifford Fire in Central California nears 'megafire' status after burning over 99,000 acres.

Firefighters Friday were trying to make progress after the Canyon fire exploded to nearly 5,000 acres, forcing thousands of residents in northern Los Angeles and eastern Ventura counties to evacuate.
