Uganda has confirmed an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the capital Kampala with the first confirmed patient dying from it on Wednesday, the health ministry said on Thursday. It is the East African country's ninth outbreak since it recorded its first infection of the viral disease in 2000.

A Ugandan health official says a nurse died of Ebola, in the first recorded fatality since the country's last outbreak ended in 2023.

Uganda's ministry of health has confirmed a new outbreak of the Ebola virus in the capital, Kampala, with one reported death. The victim was a 32-year-old male nurse whose symptoms included "high fever, chest pain, and difficulty in breathing" and "bleeding from multiple body sites".
