Canning suffered the ailment when, after surrendering a batted ball to Atlanta shortstop Nick Allen, he attempted to change directions on the mound so that he could back up third base. He subsequently went down before being aided off the field by the Mets training staff.

The New York Mets officially got the injury prognosis they were expecting on starting pitcher Griffin Canning. New York placed Canning on the 60-day injured list on Friday with a ruptured left Achilles, most likely ending what was a career-year for the righty in his first season with the Mets.
