The body of Juan Chaidez, a Dallas firefighter, was recovered Monday morning after he went missing Saturday night while kayaking. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that his body was found about 7 a.m. in Lake Lavon near Bratonia Park after an extensive search.

A fallen Dallas firefighter will be honored Tuesday morning with a procession from the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office to a funeral home.

DALLAS — Friends, family, and fellow firefighters are mourning the loss of Juan Omar Chaidez, a beloved Dallas Fire-Rescue officer whose body was found Monday at Lavon Lake. Chaidez, known simply as Omar to those closest to him, disappeared over the weekend while kayaking off-duty with his dog. Authorities say he was not wearing a life jacket.
