Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £48.5million with a potential £3.5m in add-ons. The 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge through to 2032, after The Athletic reported that the clubs had reached an agreement in principle last week.

Dortmund improved considerably as a collective following the appointment of Niko Kovač, who adopted a system that reduced the need for a touchline winger of Gittens’ ilk. Width was instead supplied from wing-backs, while speedster Karim Adeyemi performed a more prominent role in Kovač’s attack.
