The Country Director of Amnesty International Ghana, Genevieve Partington, has called for an independent investigation into the arrests of Democracy Hub protesters following their demonstration against the illegal mining surge in Ghana.

Three months after mass anti-government protests in Kenya, Amnesty International was set to present a petition on Wednesday seeking the establishment of a commission to investigate the deaths of scores of people from "the use of unlawful police force".

Kenyan police out of uniform and with no official identification fired live rounds at demonstrators at the country's parliament complex in Nairobi on June 25, Amnesty International said on Wednesday.
